Forest notifications
The worksheet displays the forest notifications approved by the Environmental Board, sorted by number of notifications, volume of fellings, and felling area. The overview allows you to view the distribution of different felling types by counties and ownership types.
On the "Current year notifications table" tab, you can download the relevant valid forest notifications for the current year in table format based on the selected filters.
The "All valid notifications" tab shows all currently valid forest notifications (a forest notification submitted from July 1, 2024, is valid for 2 years).
When reviewing the data, it is important to consider that the underlying data in the Forest Register is updated continuously. The system displays the most recent entries recorded by the Environmental Board. Not all approved forest notifications from previous years have been carried out in practice.
This page reflects the current status of forest notifications, which may change during the year. Historical overviews of forest notifications in Estonia should be checked on the Statistics Estonia’s website.
Forest notifications in protected areas
This worksheet provides data on forest notifications registered during the current year on various protected natural objects. You can filter the data by type of felling, area, and location. Additionally, queries can be made based on ownership type and the type of protected object.
The data reflects the planned fellings recorded in the Forest Register, but does not include information on whether the fellings have been carried out. When using the "Current year notifications table KA" tab with the "Restriction map layers" filter, it is important to note that a forest notification may overlap multiple different restriction layers within the same area. Each restriction layer's overview should be considered separately. For an aggregated overview covering all of Estonia, use the "Total" option in the filter.
The query results can be downloaded as a table.
Forest protection expert assessments
This worksheet presents the forest protection expert reports compiled by the Environmental Board during the current year, categorized by the main damaging agent, type of felling, felling area, and ownership type by county.
Using filters, it is possible to download the relevant valid forest protection expert reports for the current year in table format. A forest protection expert report, as a felling permit, is valid for 2 years.
When reviewing the data, it is important to consider that the underlying data in the Forest Register is updated continuously. The system displays the most recent updates recorded in the Forest Register by the Environmental Board. Not all forest notifications with an approval mark from previous years have been implemented in nature.
An overview of forest damages from previous years can be found on the Statistics Estonia’s website.
Forest protection expert assessments in protected areas
The worksheet allows you to view data on emergency felling activities recommended based on the health condition of the stand, registered during the current year on protected natural objects. Excerpts can be made based on the type of felling, area, and location. Additionally, queries can be made based on ownership type and the type of protected object.
The data reflects felling activities registered in the Forest Register, but there is no information available about the actual felling works performed. When using the filter “Protected area map layer/Restriction map layer,” it is important to note that a forest protection expert report may overlap multiple different restriction maps within the same area. Each restriction layer's overview should be considered separately. To obtain a summed overview for all of Estonia, the “Total” option in the filter should be used.
The results of the query can be downloaded as a table.
Overview of forest reproductive material
Seeds collected for forestry purposes are considered forest reproductive material. The compiled summaries provide an overview of tree seed collection by tree species, counties, and years. Information on tree seed collection is available in both graphical and table formats, and the results of custom queries can also be downloaded in table form.
For more information on forest reproductive material, visit the Environmental Board's website.
The State Forest Management Centre's forests
The overview of the state of forests managed by the State Forest Management Centre (RMK) provides a breakdown of forests by managed and protected categories. Additionally, the report offers an overview of forest areas by dominant tree species. By selecting the tree species column in the diagram, you can view its distribution by county on the related chart below.
The diagrams display RMK's inventory data from the RMK database. The data is updated continuously (once per day).
The State Forest Management Centre's regeneration felling area and its implementation
Here, you can see the annual optimal felling volume for state forests, also known as the felling coupe, and how much of it has been logged. The annual felling volume is determined by tree species, taking into account the areas of mature forests as well as forests that will become mature in ten and twenty years. RMK never logs all mature forests at once; instead, it staggers part of them for the upcoming decades. This is done to ensure that the felling volume remains consistent in the following years.
The annual optimal felling volume is recalculated each year and is approved by the Minister of the Environment.
Data source: State Forest Management Centre, data is updated continuously (on the 15th of each month).
The State Forest Management Centre's silviculture activities
From the diagrams, you can see the areas where RMK has carried out various silvicultural activities in the current year, including which tree species have been planted, in what quantities and volumes, and the reasons for these actions—whether for regenerating clearcut areas or supplementing previously planted areas.
Data source: State Forest Management Centre, data is updated continuously once per day.
Forest inventory data
The worksheets provide an overview of the forest inventory data stored in the national forest register (Forest Register), which is collected through the stand-wise forest inventory. The inventory data remains valid for ten years from the date it is entered into the Forest Register. The valid inventory data covers nearly ¾ of all forest land in Estonia.
The homepage provides an overview of all inventory data stored in the Forest Register - both valid and expired data (older than ten years). You can navigate to worksheets with valid inventory data using the menu buttons.
