Flood map: An operational map application created using Sentinel-1 satellite images, which displays the extent of open water on the sea coast, in larger lakes and river banks at the moment of the last satellite overflight.

Overview

The mapping is based on Sentinel-1 satellite images with a spatial resolution of approx. 5×20 m, so it is not possible to assess the detail below 10 m from the satellite images. Daily mapping covers the trajectory of the Sentinel-1 radar imagery satellite overflight. Since the width of the Sentinel-1 viewing area is 250 km, one satellite overflight cannot map the entire area of Estonia. On the online map, you can select the date from the menu to visualise the overflight mapping by moving the slider.

The interactive map is located on the webpage Estonian Environment Agency | WEATHER

Flood risk prevention and mitigation and early warning systems project

As a result of the project, flood risk monitoring, forecasting, and warning systems will be developed to prevent and mitigate flooding, which will, in the long term, help increase resilience to climate change. The project includes studies to identify the best preventive measures for risk areas and awareness-raising activities for flood risk prevention.
